We change, it is a natural part of human life and we prefer to embrace it. We also like to encourage it by creating opportunities for change to happen — that’s the core of Mindera Education.

The 1st edition of our ‘NodeJS Workshop for (not so) dummies’ took place in the first week of June, giving space for people who wanted to learn this language.

Nine students, among them three devs, three Mindera School students and three MindSwap students, participated in the week-long workshop that finished with a short project.

And who better to share knowledge and guide them in this journey than their fellow Minders?

Eduardo Carvalho, Nuno Machado and Ricardo Freitas are currently working daily with Node.js and its surrounding technologies. They took the time to teach their colleagues about Node.js foundations, dependency management, NVM (Node Version Manager), event loop, unit testing and functional programming.

At the end of the week, the group created a short project, as Eduardo Carvalho explains:

“Each student built an API in REST (Representational State Transfer) that provided info about movies and actors. The info was based on data coming from the web, and records could be added that were saved in a JSON file.

“The aim was primarily to show the advantages of an internal layered architecture capable of handling asynchronous processes and multiple data sources.”

A new edition of the workshop is already in preparation, but no dates can be revealed just yet — keep an eye out on the events section of our blog to find out when it’s happening! There are also talks of doing similar workshops for other languages and technologies.
