Mindera - India is at it again by promoting and supporting even more incredible and inspirational initiatives! This time, the team has been organising events to promote the “International Day of the Girl Child”, celebrated on October 11.
About the initiative:
It was the 10th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl Child this year! But where did it come from, and what does it support?
So, the initiative came about when the United Nations General Assembly declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child to recognise girls’ challenges and rights across the globe.
Focusing attention on the need to address female challenges and promote girls’ empowerment can help lead to increased awareness, adoption and fulfilment of human rights for young girls.
Girls worldwide are increasingly breaking boundaries and barriers that unfortunately result from stereotypes, exclusion and from living in marginalised communities. By empowering women and girls and promoting gender equality, sustainable development can be accelerated, and discrimination can come to an end!
This year’s theme:
The theme of 2022 was “Our time is now—our rights, our future’ the focus was on girls struggling with issues relating to inequality in education, physical and mental wellness, as well as leading a life without violence. While it is absolutely fantastic to see an increased focus on issues that matter to young girls and women amongst policymakers, investments remain limited, and girls around the world still face many challenges. It is time for everyone to be accountable and promote a future for women that enables their leadership, development, and potential!
The United Nations is asking people to get involved by:
- Sharing human interest stories, for example, blogs and videos of girl changemakers and the networks and organisations that aim to bring change.
- Addressing the factors holding girls back in various countries or regions by urging governments and policymakers to make more targeted investments.
- Asking key female influencers to be the face of change.
Our Celebration:
To get involved in helping spread the word about the initiative, our team in Mindera - India asked the children of the team members to take part in a drawing event! They provided topics on female empowerment and children as change makers.
The creativity shone through in every participant, and it was so lovely to see the children make the sketches inspite of their schoolwork and the festivities!
Our in-house artist for Mindera - India, Manjit Kaur, was delighted to be the judge for this; it was so hard to pick a winner, so she declared that all the children involved were equally brilliant and all of them got prizes!
We are so proud of the kids and the parents involved in promoting this fantastic initiative - you guys rock!
