This article was adapted from the content published in Portuguese in the ECO magazine (December 21st, 2022) and it refers to the story and initiatives of Mindera Education.

Mindera Education was born out of a dream: to allow technology lovers to learn to program and prepare them for the world of work, regardless of age, experience or social context!

Mindera is a software development company founded in 2014 by five friends, and today, more than 1000 people worldwide can call themselves Minders!

Software engineering at its finest, a unique culture based on self-organisation and a solid connection to collaboration between all make Mindera a special place to work. Here autonomy and responsibility replace hierarchy and control.

Mindera Education came from a desire to contribute to the technological community and train the next generations of computer programmers through sharing knowledge in the two areas we know best and love the most – software development and people.

There is a purpose shared by everyone at Mindera: to help people who love technology, regardless of their age, background, professional experience or social context, by allowing them to learn and grow in the technology field, experiencing our day-to-day work lives.

Mindera School:

Mindera School is aimed at young people looking for an alternative to higher education due to its high financial burden or because they do not identify with the conventional educational system. Here, students find a different approach - more practical learning and focus on relevant content to everyday work!

It is a “techie to techie” program; the teachers are Mindera's computer programmers, experienced and passionate about what they do, creative, dynamic and innovative. With a lot of love in their hearts, they share everything they know with their classes!

In addition to practical technical training ready for the job market, students also have English classes and personal development sessions, learning about tools that allow them to deal with day-to-day challenges, such as critical thinking, feedback, autonomy, and communication.

The program is agile, tweaked over time to the speed of learning and the interests of the class. It is based on individual and group projects and complemented by workshops promoted by guest programmers!

Students also have the opportunity to accompany Mindera's projects and development teams with the help of the engineers who participate.

The first eight months of training are in a classroom context, and the last two are spent in a work context, shadowing a mentor in a development team. In the end, students go through a preparation phase for the search for job opportunities, including interviews and an internal evaluation process for possible vacancies in our teams.

All students receive a monthly salary so they can focus exclusively on their development during the course!

Code Academy:

Mindera Code Academy is Mindera's latest training project. It is an academy to promote the conversion of professionals from different areas to the technological space.

At MindSwap Bootcamp, which lasts five months, we respond to software development teams' needs.

In addition to “techie” elements (which address the latest and most used technologies such as Java, Maven, Spring boot, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, React, NodeJS, Express, SQL, Databases, Containers, and GIT), we also add a personal development focus and team shadowing!

We also developed an initiation course:

WarmUp – Coding for Newbies and several upskilling courses: Backend 2.0, Frontend 2.0, UI/UX, NextJs, NodeJs, AWS, among others.

The 5th edition of the MindSwap Bootcamp will take place in a hybrid format and will start on January 3, 2023.

Tech Camps:

As well as the Mindera School and Mindera Code Academy, we are thrilled to be able to promote Tech Camps specially designed for children and adolescents who live in situations of risk and exclusion.

During school holidays, we organise summer camps that offer the opportunity to experience technology in a fun, cool, and light way. We unite the teaching of electronics and robot programming with personal development activities through group games and sports activities – such as rowing and climbing.

We believe that these experiences can help children and teenagers develop their curiosity for technology as well as their creativity and teamwork skills.

Education is something that we really value a lot at Mindera! However, these projects are just the beginning!
